Shy? There’s nothing wrong with you!
Are you shy? Do you worry about what others think of you?
Do you feel awkward with certain people? Authority figures? Strangers? Someone you find attractive?
I have great news for you. You’re not alone. Research says that over 40% of people are shy! And there’s nothing wrong with you. In fact, your shyness is sometimes a gift to others.
I was a painfully shy child. I was also an introvert, happy to play with one friend rather than in a big group. And I have always cared deeply about other people.
It was my primary school teacher who first saw the gift in all of this. And so he would sit me beside the quietest, shyest girls in the class, because he knew that I would look after them. I would talk to them and take time to listen. I would play with them when no one else would.
This role as carer was never overtly discussed with me. It just happened, as I quietly cared for the girl beside me.
Today, in my coaching program, “Shy to Shining – be a star in your own life”, I guide shy women like you to discover the gifts within yourself. You might have gifts related to being shy, and you certainly have many other gifts which make you who you are.
I have a free challenge starting on Sunday 13 November – “Shy to Sparkle – and have a Fabulous Festive Season”. We’ll be exploring feeling socially anxious and some tools and strategies to make the festive season less stressful and more fun. It’s delivered in short action-focused videos, with easy action steps, designed for busy women like you.
