How’s your social life?

How's your social life?

When someone invites you to go out, how do you feel?

Are you excited to be going out?
Or did you actually enjoy the pandemic as an excuse to say no to certain invitations?

Nowadays, most people seem to have stopped worrying about covid. And so the social invitations have started flowing again. And that will only increase as we get closer to the festive season.

So I wonder – how are you reacting to that?

If you’re struggling to re-engage socially, feeling shy or nervous, I have great news for you. You’re not alone. In fact, it’s so common that there are many psychologists around the world researching this very phenomenon.

Some people are not connecting with other people the way they used to. Some people lack motivation and struggle to focus, and many are not enjoying life.

Psychologists call this “languishing”. It means that you’re not depressed but you’re not flourishing either.

I get it. I’m loving seeing old friends again, and actually being in the same room together is such a treat after so long just seeing each other on our devices.

And yet, I’m also quite happy pottering in my garden or kitchen or reading a book to relax. And I’m not planning to fill up my calendar with social events the way I used to.

My encouragement for you today is to sit and have a little think about your social life. Are you getting a good balance?

– Are you seeing friends as much as you’d like?

– Are you having fun?

– Do you feel supported?

– Are you happy with your social life?

– How would you like it to be different?

If you’re struggling to get out and socialise, you’re not alone. And that’s why I’m running a free challenge, starting on 13 November. It’s called …

Shy to Sparkle – Tools for fun socialising, now & every day!

P.S. Wishing you just the right amount of fun with friends this week!
