HOW DO YOU TALK TO YOURSELF?

How Do You Talk to Yourself?

Today I talk to myself like I am my own encouraging cheer squad. I am even comfortable with my struggles and imperfections. I know that each challenge I face is a doorway to greater insight and ease.

But it wasn’t always like this. You see, I used to treat myself harshly. I was highly ambitious and driven to succeed, so I pushed myself and worked long hours. I was also a perfectionist, rewriting reports again and again.

But the worst thing was the way I spoke to myself. I told myself that I was not good enough. That if I was going for a job here today, I would not be hired. That I had to work harder than the others in order to succeed. And this negativity and fear drained the fun and energy out of my days.

You see, we grow up being taught that this world is competitive. That we need to win. And to do that, we need to push ourselves harshly. Some courses proudly encourage business owners to be driven! Push yourself and you will succeed!

But you know that there is a cost. You can only push yourself harshly for so long before something will give.

Do you push yourself harshly in order to succeed?

Do you sometimes fear that you are not as good as others?

Do you ever wonder if having a successful business is supposed to feel like this?

Do you wonder if there is anything you can do about it?

I have found that the answer starts with being honest with myself. Realising how I am treating myself, and learning new kinder ways.

But I never would have got there on my own. Many years ago my spiritual director told me “treat yourself with gentle compassion” – but until I worked with a life coach I really did not know what that even meant or how to go about doing it. You see, we need someone else to help us see our blind spots.

Through going to coaching I am gradually overcoming my mental blocks, one by one, and living with less harshness and more kindness and joy. I have learned to be kind to myself when I stuff up and to speak to myself with gentle encouragement.

I love nothing better than to accompany women who are ready to face their own mental blocks. I would love to accompany you on your journey of awareness, self-acceptance and personal transformation.
