Does life feel a bit dull and repetitive?

Does life feel a bit dull and repetitive?

Do you sometimes feel like you’re just going through life but it’s become a bit boring?
A bit ordinary?

Like you’d love a spark of colour but you don’t know where to find it?

If you wake up in the morning and you struggle to get out of bed, because your life feels like it’s on autopilot – sleep, eat, work, eat – repeat – then today’s hot tip is just for you.

In chatting to my clients over the past 5 years, I realise that so many of us are just living on autopilot. We’re not actually stopping to enjoy special moments.

Each task seems like another thing to do, rather than an experience to enjoy.

I used to feel like this too, especially in my corporate days – when each day seemed to be the same. The project was different but the process was the same. And it was easy to just go into automatic mode.

But actually, the older I get, the more precious time becomes, and the more I want to cherish every moment.

Life is too short to waste year after year on autopilot!

No more looking back over a year regretting that it was just more of the same. Today I want my life to be an exciting adventure. Each day a new experience.

Today I’ll share one of my simplest strategies to bringing a bit of colour into your life.

You can start it in just a few minutes.

I call it my Joyful Jar. It’s just a pottery jar which I bought from Vinnies for a few dollars. I love that it has an Aztec look about it. I associate Aztecs with the discovery of chocolate and with having lots of gold treasures.

So whenever I get a lovely letter of thanks or I do something I’m really proud of, I write it down and put it into my Joyful Jar.

I also have a box filled with birthday cards, photos and special memories.

Here’s an example of what’s in the jar: It’s a recent message from one of my coaching clients, as she looked back on the past year of coaching with me. This is what she said to me:

” I never considered life coaching before, and I didn’t really know what it was. I didn’t know whether it was like just a pep up, on the surface Rara sort of thing. Or a really expensive thing I couldn’t afford. Just up there for high level people.

But I love your coaching Carolyn. It just seems so down to earth, so practical, so tailored to me, and it’s life changing. Because I never thought that, as a shy person, that I could change. That there was an option of a different way of looking at life and situations.

It’s amazing. It’s life changing. I would highly, highly recommend you as a coach because it’s been unbelievable. You’ve got so much compassion and empathy. And it’s very personalised as well, which I love because every person’s situation is different. And you’re happy to explore different situations.

I really appreciate the approach you take to coaching. Thank you. “

So, I encourage you to find a box or a jar, and each time someone gives you a compliment or any words of encouragement, write them down and put them into your Joyful Jar or Box.

Where do you get started? Just have a skim through old emails and messages from friends.

I’m sure you’ll find some little gems to get you started.

Enjoy!
